Load Cells and Weigh-In-Motion Sensors
The deck carries the load; the sensor decides the number. Here are the load cell and WIM plate figures, the system components and the software behaviour behind them.
Load cells are the one component a buyer cannot judge by looking at a finished weighbridge. We specify them by the numbers that matter in service: a 58 mm wide-flange plate for weigh-in-motion, IP68 ingress protection, 150% overload capacity and a measurement method that tolerates real driving rather than a laboratory pass.
Our WIM sensor is a wide-flange plate scale designed for direct burial, no civil foundation pit is required. Full-wheel load integration is the core of the design: instead of sampling a point load, the subsystem integrates the entire wheel pass, cancelling the eccentric and irregular driving errors that distort a single-point reading. The stated dynamic accuracy is +/- 0.5% of gross weight, with a single-axle class of E under the manual caliber, across 1-100 km/h.
A complete WIM installation is more than a plate. It pairs the wide-flange plate scale subsystem with licence plate recognition, an LED information board for overspeed and overload prompts, and a data acquisition subsystem. The software layer handles image capture with video linkage, flags S-shaped detours, rush-scale and drag-scale behaviour, supports 7x24 unattended running, caches data locally during a network outage and manages multiple sites from one console.

DATA / SENSOR
Sensor specification
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor thickness | 58 mm | Direct-bury, no civil pit |
| Ingress protection | IP68 | Buried environment rating |
| Overload capacity | 150% | Of rated load |
| Dynamic accuracy | +/- 0.5% | Gross weight, per manual Class 1 |
| Single-axle accuracy | Class E | Per manual caliber |
| Traffic speed | 1-100 km/h | Weigh-in-motion range |
| Measurement method | Full-wheel load integration | Cancels eccentric / irregular driving error |

A truck rarely crosses a plate perfectly square. By integrating the whole wheel load over the pass, the subsystem removes the bias caused by off-centre contact, S-shaped approaches and uneven speed, the reason a point-load sensor drifts on a real road.

FAQ
Sensor and system questions
What accuracy should I expect?
For dynamic weigh-in-motion the stated figure is +/- 0.5% of gross weight, with a single-axle class of E under the manual caliber. Static weighbridge accuracy is confirmed against the issued drawing during factory calibration for the chosen configuration.
Can the system detect irregular driving or cheating?
The weigh-in-motion software flags S-shaped detours, rush-scale and drag-scale behaviour, and links each event to captured images and video for audit.
What overload margin is built in?
Load cells and the WIM plate are rated for 150% overload. That margin is there for the incidental shock of a heavy axle dropping onto the deck, not for sustained overloading.
Does the WIM plate need a concrete pit?
No. The 58 mm sensor plate is designed for direct burial, which removes most of the civil works. It is rated IP68 for the buried environment.
Is an unattended weighing solution available?
Yes. The weigh-in-motion package supports 7x24 unattended operation, image capture with video linkage, local caching during network outages and multi-site central management.
